12 Weeks of Spacemaking: Week 12
(noun)
- the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness
Friends. We have covered a lot of ground in the last 12 weeks, from creating boundaries to infusing play to making space for our dedications and more!
There is just one more bit...
Gratitude.
As you may have sussed out by now, spacemaking can be a very connected and personal journey for my clients, my communities, and myself. I believe this is because we see what becomes possible when we take time to look at how we engage in the world and intentionally create systems of nourishment for ourselves and those around us.
Creating and nourishing space takes effort whether it be adjusting your home office environment, understanding relationship nuances, or navigating local community dynamics. It's not easy to recognize, acknowledge, and make room for shifting needs or dreams. It's vulnerable business.
The spaces we create and nourish will witness the good and the bad. They will support us in striving for and reaching our goals...struggling and bargaining with failure...nursing broken hearts and physical ailments...celebrating first loves and dear friends/family.
However...
The spaces we create and nourish will also support us in the messy journey of becoming, well, uniquely us.
Even through the unavoidable hardship and potential confusion. And that is a beautiful thing.
So, on this last week of our spacemaking journey, I'd like to send you out in the world with gratitude for yourself and the spaces you create and nourish in the world.
It’s not easy to create space - whether physical, intangible, or both - for yourself, your loved ones, and your community. It takes grit and persistence, grace and generosity, faith and an abundance of love. Whether or not you realize it, you do this every day in your homes, on a commute, shopping for groceries, in your community gatherings, and in your heart. Every. Single. Day.
Please take a minute to acknowledge and thank yourself.
You're doing great.
Before we close on this series, I want to express my gratitude for your interest and participation in this offering. Over the course of the last 12 weeks we have covered some topics that are not typical to discuss in the architectural realm. I’m happy you’ve stuck with me and look forward to engaging with you on the next topic of writing!
A note: if you have been struggling with keeping up with the journal prompts and/or worksheets, please do not fret. There is/was no timeframe. They are yours to return to and access as you are able.
I wish you and yours a spacious 2025. Here’s to engaging and creating the spaces we want more of in our lives and to inspiring others to do the same. Much love from me to you!
journal prompts to carry with you
name (3) things you are grateful for today about the spaces you inhabit.
what ways can you express gratitude - if even in the smallest way - to those around you?
do you accept or welcome acts of gratitude form others easily? or do you resist? simply notice.
is gratitude a transaction for you? Or an act of love? or something different entirely?
what would it look like for you to extend gratitude for yourself today (and the next day, and the next day, and the next…)?
This wraps Week 12…and our 12 Weeks of Spacemaking! Thank you for taking time to explore spacemaking from a place of gratitude!
