Historic Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts
project scope: interior design full scope w/ custom light sconce design
Project Size + type: 22,000 sqft, historic renovation/upgrade
-opened to public winter 2009-
in collaboration with lmn architects
This 1925 theatre lobby was refurbished, remaining sensitive to the historical context, and new public restrooms and concessions were provided along with new mechanical and electrical systems. Back of house renovations included updating dressing rooms, wardrobe space, storage and a greenroom. A fully-functioning Senior Living community directly surrounded the theatre space on the upper floors requiring complex construction phasing. All spaceplanning, systems upgrades, and cosmetic changes were presented to stakeholders for approval, including the Historic Review Board. A custom light sconce was requested to both give a nod to the historic elements in the
building as well as bridge a more modern aesthetic into the renovation.
