When this project began, the layout of the floor was haphazard and disconnected. Doctor’s personal offices were clustered with exam rooms, patients would get lost when directed to their exam room, and there was a high turnover of patients leaving without paying as they could never find their way back.

Working directly with nurses and staff in the department, the goal was to create a split in the function of the floor - admin to the north, procedure rooms to the south - with service and program adjacency leading the way for ease of daily use and clarity in patient experience.

Other items that came to the fore as priority were to create patient support in the south quadrant with a second nurses station, clear circulation paths that supported patient journey, and a custom designed reception area to handle billing before a patient was administered.
